Tina Modotti
La settimana scorsa sono andato a vedere la retrospettiva dedicata a Tina Modotti, allestita presso il Centro Internazionale di Fotografia a Verona
Assunta Adelaide Luigia Modotti Mondini, meglio conosciuta come Tina Modotti (Udine, 17 agosto 1896 – Città del Messico, 5 gennaio 1942), è stata modella, attrice, artista, fotografa, rivoluzionaria comunista e donna appassionata, una vita intensa come pochi, soprattutto per una donna vissuta nella prima metà del secolo scorso.
Come fotografa Tina Modotti è passata dalle fotografie di strutture e forme di oggetti, dove era chiara l’influenza di Edward Weston, all’utilizzo della fotografia come strumento di indagine e denuncia sociale. Le sue opere, realizzate con estrema bravura ed equilibrio estetico, assumono spesso grande valenza ideologica: si tratta di un’esaltazione dei simboli del lavoro, del popolo e del suo riscatto attraverso fotografie di mani di operai, di manifestazioni politiche e sindacali, di attrezzi da lavoro come falce e martelli e così via. Il suo stile fu forgiato dalla ricerca costante della perfezione, tanto da farle scrivere:
Ti spedisco alcune istantanee fatte a Tehuantapec. perdonami ma ti mando solo quelle di cui mi capita di avere dei duplicati a disposizione, naturalmente mentre ero lì ne ho fatte molte altre, ma purtroppo la maggior parte è nelle stesse condizioni di quelle che ti mando, imprecise o mosse, ho dovuto fare tutte le esposizioni così in fretta , appena mi vedevano con la macchina fotografica le donne acceleravano il passo automaticamente; e caminavano velcomente per natura

Alla morte, il poeta Pablo Neruda le dedica una poesia che inizia così:
Tina Modotti, sorella, tu non dormi, no, non dormi:
forse il tuo cuore sente crescere la rosa
di ieri, l’ultima rosa di ieri, la nuova rosa.
Riposa dolcemente, sorella.
La mostra dura fino al 08/03/2015 ed è davvero bella da vedere. Non perdetevi nemmeno il filmato allestito nel percorso sulla sua vita, rende molto bene la vita tormentata di questa artista.

Last week I went to visit the exhibition dedicated to Tina Modotti at Centro Internazionale di Fotografia in Verona
Tina Modotti (August 16 (or 17) 1896 – January 5, 1942) was an Italian photographer, model, actress, comunist revolutionary and passionate woman, an intense life like few, especially for a woman who lived in the first half of the last century.
As photographer Tina Modotti began taking photographs of structures and shapes of objects, where it was clear the influence of Edward Weston, and after she took the road of photography as an investigative tool and social protest. His works, made with great skill and aesthetic balance, often take great ideological value: it is an exaltation of the symbols of the work, the people and his redemption through photographs of the hands of workers, of political and union demonstrations, tools working as sickle and hammers, and so on. His style was forged by the constant search for perfection, so as to make them write:
I’m sending you some of the Polaroids taken at Tehuantapec. Forgive me but I’m only sending ones I happen to have duplicates,of. Obviously I took many others while I was there, but unfortunately most of them are in the same condition as these I’m sending now – imprecise or out of focus. I had to take all the pictures so quickly. As soon as the women saw me with the camera they automatically sped up their pace – and they’re already fast walkers.

When she died, Pablo Neruda written a poem for her:
Pure your gentle name, pure your fragile life,
bees, shadows, fire, snow, silence and foam,
combined with steel and wire and
pollen to make up your firm
and delicate being.
