NOTIPS per Foto Fantastiche - Stefano Martellucci

Con questo post vorrei darvi la ricetta magica per fare le foto fantastiche come i professionisti e vi dirò quali sono i trucchi per poterle pubblicare sulle copertine delle riviste più importanti. Siete pronti?

No dai… davvero vi aspettate un post del genere? Pensate veramente che due banalità messe in qualche riga possano farvi diventare dei fotografi superfighi? Pensate veramente che post del genere possano darvi la ricetta magica per fare belle fotografie?

Il mondo del web è pieno di articoli di questo genere, ne siamo tutti irrimediabilmente attratti perché siamo alla ricerca di qualcosa che non sappiamo, ma poi i contenuti sono di una superficialità stupefacente. Questi post servono soltanto a generare visite, ad incrementare le statistiche per il marketing del web e gli introiti da pubblicità, ma dopo la loro lettura continuerete a fare foto di m…

Volete qualche consiglio da un mediocre fotoamatore come il sottoscritto? Eccovi i miei 2cents, consigli schietti, i miei NOTIPS, forse maleducati, ma diretti, senza tanti inutili giri di parole, che, se non vi faranno diventare dei fotografi fighi, almeno vi aiuteranno a costruirvi una base di cultura fotografica:

Non andate ai corsetti per fotografi novelli, quelli da 150€-200€ organizzati da qualche fotografo improvvisato. Se lo fate per trovare l’anima gemella, beh servitevi, ma se volete invece imparare le basi tecniche, prendetevi un buon manuale tecnico in libreria e poi iniziate ad esercitarvi. Non cercate la pappa pronta, impegnatevi, l’autoapprendimento è il migliore corso che potete fare;
Comprate libri fotografici dei grandi maestri della fotografia (Cartier Bresson, Avedon, Weston, Koudelka, Ansel Adams, ecc..), studiate le loro immagini, esercitatevi imitando quegli scatti, non vergognatevi, nella storia millenaria dell’arte è sempre stato fatto così. Quando a scuola avete studiato letteratura, avete letto le opere dei grandi classici, per la fotografia è la stessa identica cosa, se non conoscete la storia di quest’arte, se non conoscete le fotografie dei signori citati sopra, non parlerete mai fotografia. Fatevi una libreria fotografica, io ho almeno 70 libri, e non siatene mai soddisfatti, studiateli ed invece di cazzeggiare su facebook o su flickr, prendetevi il vostro libro da meditazione con un buon bicchiere di vino;
Andate a mostre, come per i libri, sono una fonte inesauribile di studio, di educazione all’immagine e di stimoli. Perdetevi a meditare davanti alle stampe, cogliete sempre l’opportunità di visitarne una, anche d’illustri sconosciuti: non tutto sarà di vostro gradimento, ma in questo modo costruirete la vostra cultura fotografica ed il vostro gusto;
Non spendete inutilmente i vostri soldi in attrezzatura fotografica, un obiettivo da 1000€ non vi farà fare foto più belle rispetto uno di 100€. Prima di apprezzarne le differenze ne dovete scattare di fotografie;
Lasciate stare gli zoom, prendete un obiettivo a focale fissa che vi costringerà a girare intorno al soggetto per trovare la resa migliore. Un 50mm f1,8 costa pochi euro, ma ha una qualità infinitamente superiore allo zoometto standard che vi danno con la reflex, oltre al vantaggio di essere luminoso e utilizzabile in molte situazioni;
Non pensiate di poter risollevare la mediocrità delle vostre foto con Photoshop perché una foto brutta con PS diventerà semplicemente brutta e pacchiana. Gli unici strumenti concessi sono la taglierina e la regolazione del contrasto. Solo una volta che avete costruito le basi, potete passare al livello superiore ed utilizzare strumenti più sofisticati.
Stampate le vostre foto, dico di più, stampatele anche grandi: una foto stampata vi aiuterà ad essere più obiettivi perché a video le foto sembrano tutte più belle, mentre la stampa è impietosa, non lascia speranza alla mediocrità;
Il cestino è uno strumento fondamentale che non deve mancare mai nell’attrezzatura di ogni buon fotografo, meglio un cestino grande che uno zoom in più;
Se vi accontate dei “like” sui social network, se vi interessa il “mi piace” di vostra nonna, mamma, zia, ecc… le mollette dei panni, i gattini e i tramonti sono soggetti perfetti, se invece volete crescere confrontatevi su qualche buon forum, contattate bravi fotografi e chiedete un parere sulle vostre immagini, frequentate qualche buon circolo e se siete permalosi fatevene una ragione;
Non firmate le vostre fotografie, non lo fanno i grandi, perché dovete farlo voi? Perché dovete ricordare a tutti chi è l’autore di una foto brutta.

Prima di lasciarvi vi raccomando una cosa essenziale: l’esercizio. Spesso si pensa che il talento possa crescere come l’erba e chi ne è dotato possa per virtù divina fare belle immagini a occhi chiusi, niente di più sbagliato!!! Il talento va coltivato e il suo concime è l’esercizio.

The world wide web is full of articles of this kind, we are always attracted because we are looking for something that we don’t know, but the contents are of a superficial amazing. The people write these kind of post to generate visits, to increase the statistics for web marketing and advertising revenues, but after reading them you will continue to take shit pictures…

Do you want some tips from a mediocre amateur like myself? Here are my 2Cents, blunt tips, my NOTIPS, maybe rude, but direct, which, if not you will become a photographer cool, at least help you to build a base of photographic culture:

Don’t follow courses for newbies, those from 150 € -200 € organized by some impromptu photographer. If you do it to find a girlfriend/boyfriend, well, but if you want to learn the basics techniques instead, you’ve to buy a good technical manual in a bookshop and then you’ve to do excercises. Don’t exist a easy way, self-learning is the best you can do;
Buy photo books of the great masters of photography (Cartier Bresson, Avedon, Weston, Koudelka, Ansel Adams, etc ..), studies their pictures, imitates those photos, don’t be ashamed, in the long history of art it has always been done so. When you studied literature at school, you read the works of the great classics, for photography is the same thing, if you don’t know the history of this art, if you don’t know the photographs of the masters mentioned above, you can’t talk about photography. Don’t spent too time over facebook or flickr, take a photo book from your library, I’ve got at least 70 books, and study them, better if with a good glass of wine;
Visit exhibitions, like books you can have an endless source of study, image education and stimuli. You can lose yourself to meditate in front of the prints, always seize the opportunity to visit one, even of unknown authors: not everything will be to your liking, but this way you will build your photographic culture and your taste;
Don’t spend your money unnecessarily in camera equipment, a objective of 1000€ don’t help you to take photos more beautiful than one of 100 €. You have to take a lot of photos before to appreciate the differences;
Let stand zooms, take a fixed focal length lens that will force you to turn around the subject to find the best yield. A 50mm F1.8 costs a few euro, but has a quality far superior to the standard zoometto that give you with the camera, besides the advantage of being light and usable in many situations;

Print your photos, I say more, print large them: a printed photo will help you to be more objective because and leaves no hope to mediocrity;
The basket is a fundamental tool that should not ever fail in the equipment of every good photographer, better a big basket than a zoom in more;
If you prefer “like” of your grandmother, your aunt, ecc.. or on social networks, the clips cloths, kittens and sunsets are perfect subjects, but if you want to grow, you have to show your photos on some good forum, you can contact some good photographers and ask for an opinion on your images, you can frequent some good photoclubs, but if you are touchy…. ;
Don’t sign your photographs, if Steve Mccurry doesn’t do it, why you do it? Why do you want to remind everyone who is the author of a bad photo

Before leaving I recommend an essential thing: the exercise. The talent must be cultivated and its fertilizer is the exercise.
